Standing on Moi Avenue, the Kenya National Archives safeguards over 40,000 historical documents and photographs spanning Kenya's colonial and post-independence history. Uhuru ('Freedom') Park is Nairobi's most famous public park — a green oasis beside the city centre and a symbol of Kenya's democratic struggles, saved from development by Wangari Maathai's protests.
