Nairobi City Centre Walking Tour
Uhuru — ‘Freedom’ in Swahili — Park is Nairobi’s most famous public park, a green oasis beside the city centre and a powerful symbol of Kenya’s democratic struggles. In 1989, Wangari Maathai’s famous protest here saved the park from development, a victory that helped launch her path to the Nobel Peace Prize.
Stroll past the boating lake, the Nyayo-era monuments, and ‘Freedom Corner’ — the site of historic protests and celebrations. Watch Nairobians at play: families picnicking, couples boating, children riding, and friends relaxing under the jacaranda trees.
Adjacent to Central Park and directly opposite the KICC, Uhuru Park is the perfect relaxed finale to a city centre walking tour — a slice of everyday Nairobi life.
