About Ngong Hills
Made famous by Karen Blixen’s ‘Out of Africa’, the Ngong Hills offer one of Kenya’s most rewarding day hikes — just 25 km from Nairobi. The name comes from the Maasai ‘eNkomo’ (knuckles), describing the ridge’s seven wind-swept peaks.
Trek across all seven peaks — rising to 2,460 m — with panoramic views of Nairobi’s skyline on one side and the floor of the Great Rift Valley on the other. Along the way you’ll pass the iconic wind farm turbines and may spot buffaloes, baboons, and soaring raptors.
The full ridge hike takes 4–5 hours and finishes in Kona Baridi for a well-earned lunch with a view. Sunrise and sunset hikes are especially spectacular. Zip-lining is also available nearby for thrill-seekers.
